Last night, we did not know exactly what we wanted: White, Rose or Red? While we were preparing some spicy food, I decided to open a bottle of german Riesling. Not any bottle but a 2008 Brauneberger Riesling Kabinett from Fritz Haag. The problem with german rieslings is that you do not know before opening the bottle how sweet or dry will it be. This is always a guess and by looking at the mention Kabinett, you would expect a dry and straightforward wine. And it was not! This great winemaker has an impressive ability to build wines with a sweetness and at the same time with a beautiful acidity which makes at the end a Riesling with a great elegance and a perfect balance. Even at a Kabinett level which is really impressive. Delicious.
