For 3 years, Château Gruaud Larose has invested in a strategy to develop wine tourism, with a dedicated team of 3 people who speak 7 languages (English, French, Chinese, Brazilian, Spanish, Danish and German) and an offer of various and innovative programs adapted to the demand of an increasing number of visitors. As Jean Merlaut, owner of Château Gruaud Larose, believes strongly in this activity, he did not hesitate to rank it among the château’s priorities: ” Society is changing. Travelling has become easier. More people feel the need to have their own experience, to see for themselves. I think there is a real demand for wine tourism and this is a great opportunity for us to promote our château and to show the tremendous work we accomplish when producing our wines.” The various offers are likely to suit everyone and make them want to come back: tasting classes, cooking classes, harvest workshops but also several different tours and tastings adapted to the interests of the visitors (history, winemaking, …). Their names are evocative: “The Pearls of the Medoc”, “The Belle Époque”, “The Good Winemaker”, “The True Médoc-Style” … This year, the innovative character of the Château Gruaud Larose wine tourism program was moreover awarded with the Best Of 2012 “Valuing the environment” for the “White Path” tour during the ceremony of the 9th Best of Wine Tourism ceremony which rewarded the most hospitable wine estates. Initiated in 2010, this tour shows the ecological and modern approach of this great vineyard. For two hours and 15 euros per person, this tour ends up with a tasting of the Grand Vin and also the second wine, Sarget de Gruaud Larose. This tour is a good example of the Wine tourism pricing policy: it is accessible to a broad public, in the spirit of openness claimed by Jean Merlaut and his team. “The Unwavering Tour” shares the same philosophy: a shorter tour offered at a price of 15 euros for private tour and 8 euros for a group tour. Seminars, cocktail parties, lunches or dinners can also be organized inside the château. (See more details: “Wine Tourism Program“). Today, the strategy of Château Gruaud Larose is extremely suc-cessful. The wine tourism has pursued its growth since 2009 and will exceed 6,000 visitors in 2012. In addition, the visitor profile is increa-singly international, with almost two thirds coming from outside France, mainly from Asia and America. These splendid results encou-rage the château to continue in the same direction, including plans to build a new modern and luxurious place dedicated to wine tourism activities.
