CUNE, Vina Real, Imperial, Contino…These names bear the colors of Spain around the world for 140 yearsIn 1879, Eusebio and Raimundo Real de Asúa set the goal of making the best wines of Spain and make their country shine all over the world. It was a bold idea and a lot of people thought they were out of their minds to imagine it was possible. Today Maria and Victor Urrutia, the fifth generation, lead the family company in the same way and celebrate this year the 140th birthday of Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España (CVNE).

Only winery to have 4 Gran Reserva wines and biggest owner of vineyards (545 hectares) in the most renowned villages in Rioja, CVNE has always put a strong emphasis on the work done in the vineyards and on the quality of the grapes harvested in order to show the unique diversity the region can proposeVery early, the family committed themselves to a viticulture respectful of its environment and for the excellence in the quality of wines. In Rioja, the innovative Single Vineyards approach at CONTINO since 1974 is now taken as an example by a whole region to promote the quality of its exceptional terroirs. First winery in Spain to obtain the double environmental footprint (Carbon Footprint and Water Footprint), CVNE has never been afraid of considering new initiatives with fresh and bold ideas over the last 140 years.

If IMPERIAL is the iconic Rioja wine since it was celebrated No. 1 in the Top 100 Wine Spectator – a place never equaled since by another Spanish wine – CVNE’s other wine estates are also appreciated by experts and consumers all over the world. In 2019, CVNE is not only a true guarantee of the best traditional style of long-aging Rioja wines but also a journey through the different most prestigious terroirs in Spain: the recently acquired properties in the regions of Cava, Galicia and Ribera del Duero are an example of CVNE’s unconditional commitment to promoting Spain and its best wines.
