Albeit many Italians are ready for the summer holidays, Vinitaly International is officially launching two new Social Media Platforms to increase its digital presence and aid educational as well as promotional activities regarding Italian Wine. The official Weibo site (http://www.weibo.com/u/2823805764) and a Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Vinitaly-in-The-World/329577807126642) aim to engage different consumers and markets with content-driven pictures, videos, news and educational segments with regards to Italian wine discussions. The Vinitaly in the World Weibo account (N.B. only accessible to people subscribed to the Weibo social network, hence mostly Chinese), will be bilingual in Chinese and English. Sino Weibo is a hybrid between Twitter and Facebook (which are blocked on mainland China) and rapidly becomes one of China’s most popular websites, with well over 30% of all Chinese Internet users being active on it. The site was launched in 2009 and has more than 300 million registered users that post more than 100 million messages daily. Vinitaly in the World seeks to use this important channel to educate and advocate Italian Wine to Chinese consumers and understand the market better. The dedicated Vinitaly Tour will work hard to bridge any potential cultural or linguistic gap between Italian Wines and the Chinese consumer. The official Vinitaly in the World Facebook page seeks to address younger consumers, wine aficionados as well as visitors of past events to engage them by sharing comments, photos, news or other media with likeminded wine lovers. The site will be operated mainly in English with the occasional Italian, Chinese and Russian post. With these two new additional platforms Vinitaly in the World is expanding its digital presence as it already has LinkedIn (Vinitaly International Network), Twitter (VinitalyTour and OperaWine), YouTube Channels (Vinitaly in the World and OperaWine) as well as Flickr.
